Sirens Warn of an Impending Emergency

Your area may use Emergency Warning Sirens to warn people outside. If you know their message, you can stay out of harm’s way. Sirens can be used in cases of severe weather, attack, or any other emergency event that requires urgent action.

Your area may have specific warnings that are broadcast by these sirens. Usually the message is simple.

  • Seek shelter right away.
  • Tune to radio, TV, or scanners for information.
Sirens are tested in many areas on different days but usually at noon. Ask your local fire or civil defense department how your local sirens are used and when tests occur.
